Schengen Calculator Case Studies

Case studies validating the Schengen Calculator. Ensuring accuracy for complex travel within the EU

Launching My Schengen Calculator Case Study Series: Real-World Testing

Alright, so I'm starting a series where I'm testing my travel tools, beginning with the Schengen Calculator.

My aim is to make sure these tools are easy to use and accurate. I'll check them against official calculators and get user feedback to improve them.

Why I'm Testing the Calculator

Travel calculations can be tricky, and even small errors can cause issues for users. So, it's important that the calculator is accurate and user-friendly.

In this series, I'll:

  • Compare my results with the official calculators.
  • Keep an eye out for any unusual scenarios.
  • See how people use the tool – what clicks, what's confusing, etc.
  • Use this to improve the user experience.

First Up: The Schengen Calculator

For my first case study, I'm looking at the Schengen Calculator. It helps people with the 90/180-day rule in the Schengen Area. You can see the first case study here: Multiples Stays Across One Whole Year

Here's the plan:

  1. I'm going to test many different travel scenarios (found some on Reddit).
  2. I'll double-check results against the official EU calculator.
  3. I'll analyse how people interact with the calculator.
  4. And I'll figure out how to make it easier to use.

My Test Method

To be thorough, I'm testing:

  • Simple trips – one entry, one exit.
  • More complex trips – multiple entries, multiple exits.
  • Tricky situations where you're right on the 90-day limit.
  • Trips that cross over different 180-day periods.

What I've Found So Far – Early Observations

I'm still in the early stages, but I've spotted some interesting things that will help me improve the calculator:

  • People have many different ways of entering dates.
  • A visual timeline is important for understanding the rules.
  • People often want to quickly try out different travel plans.

What's Next?

This is just the start! Over the next while, I'll be:

  1. Sharing details from my Schengen calculator testing.
  2. Improving the calculator based on feedback.
  3. Starting to test my other calculators.
  4. Considering user feedback and suggestions.

Your Feedback is Welcome

If you're using my Schengen calculator, I'd be interested in your feedback. As this is a new project, any input is valuable.

  • Please share your travel plans.
  • Let me know if you find any discrepancies compared to official calculators.
  • Suggest features that would be helpful.
  • Share your experience using the tool.

Thanks for your time. Your input will help improve these tools.

I'll keep you posted on the testing and improvements. This is the first of many case studies as I work to make my travel tools better.
